Index Ventures has raised $2 billion in new capital, forming two new funds.
There's a $900m fund and a $400 million 'pool' for seed rounds. Index also added $700m to an existing $1.5bn growth fund (previously announced in 2024), reports Bloomberg.
So, in total, it now has $3.5 billion in investment capital. Index has also published an airy blog post which essentially amounts to ‘AI will be the main driver’ of new investment opportunities.
Index Ventures is best known for investing in companies like Skype, Notion , Scale AI, Figma, Revolut, Wiz, Adyen, Robinhood, Roblox, Datadog, Dropbox and Supercell.
Indeed, Index is, in many ways, a storied fund.
However, it hasn’t been known for making early bets on AI so far; hence, perhaps, the overtly declared strategy.
Although it’s backed Cohere and Mistral, these are small compared to Anthropic/OpenAI, and it only invested in Anthropic last year.
That said, it participated in the $1.1 billion round raised by the UK’s Ineffable Intelligence, so perhaps it’s planning to double down on that investment later on, hence the new war chest.
